about

Following the critical and commercial success of his freshman album, "Xmas 2," Ethan Marks shifts his focus from religion to politics. His sophomore release asks the questions:

what is America and why are we celebrating it; what songs are about America and why are they like that; why is it that every song about America is written by John Phillips Sousa and how has his output remained consistent and prolific these 164 years and counting; if songs about America permeate all genres except jazz, why is it that jazz, America's "original art form," hasn't ever produced any songs about America; should we be worried about the undying John Phillips Sousa and what terror might be keeping him alive; what should you do if you hear a ghostly "Washington Post March" whistle in the air, followed by a chilling knock at the door; should you hide; should you run; oh god, he's here; oh go—

These troubling questions emblematize our time and place in political history and demand immediate and horrific answers.

Happy Fourth of Ju-why?, everyone.
